Got a call from "Keith" from DLink this morning (having said he would call yesterday afternoon- not looking good...).
He had tried the DWL-G810 connected to a DSL-G604T, but during the transfer of a large (>1GB) file, it TOO hung.
So both the older DWL-2000AP+ and the "new" DWL-G810 do not properly support WIFI client mode.
The initial through was that it was incompatible with the DSL-G604T, but I tried replacing it with a new WAG354G device - same problem.
Interesting that the DWL-G810 is advertised as "DWL-G810 is a high-speed Ethernet-to-Wireless LAN Client Adapter" - clearly this is not exactly true.
OK I am transferring extreme amounts of data - but with internet TV on the horizon, it won't be long before a 1GB transfer will be considered "small"...
Keith's recommendation was that I return my DWL-2000AP+ and purchase a different manufacturers device!
So back to CCL Online who once again have been extremely helpful.
What next? Certainly will not use or recommend using DLink WIFI devices in Client Mode - the DLink DWL-2000AP+ and DWL-G810 clearly have problems and do not work reliably in WIFI client mode...
