Some will have seen that Thailand has featured on the news this last week, with angry protests in Bangkok and other places.
Following the success of our reporting on the 2006 coupe (see here, here, here, here, and here) we thought we should investigate the extend of the protests in and around Chiang Mai.
So out we went, reporter's camera at hand.
After only a short time out looking, evidence of the level of tension became very apparent...
Guard Dog out to ward off any protesters
Undeterred, we bravely proceeded on...
Protester must be lurking around the corner
Until we came across the first indications that all was not well
Protester chasing the reporter?
Then, the chase was on when foreign supporters joined in with the protesters
Norwegian Vikings joining the protest
We decided enough was enough and retreated back to safety of a cup of tea (supplies of tea are currently adequate, so no need to raise the alert levels).
Apart from the above signs of trouble, all appears normal and calm in and around Chiang Mai, with shops open as normal, and Thai food tasting as delicious as ever.
On a more serious note...someone at Grace posted an interested review of the current situation here.
