Unfortunately I am having problems receiving emails - emails being sent to me (Adrian) are being bounced back, with the message:
This is the Postfix program at host friskymail-mx2.g.dreamhost.com. I'm sorry to have to inform you that your message could not be be delivered to one or more recipients. It's attached below. For further assistance, please send mail toIf you do so, please include this problem report. You can delete your own text from the attached returned message.
It turns out that this is nothing to do with our Thai ADSL internet provider, but is in fact a problem with our web hosting company "Dreamhost" in the USA.
We did report this on Wednesday (3rd Sept) evening (around 15:00 GMT), some 24 hours at the time of writing this. However the problem is still there.
Meanwhile, I have managed to divert my emails to a temporary GMail account so, despite the error messages, I am now still actually receiving emails being sent to me, despite the error bounce.
I hope that "Dreamhost" manages to fix this problem really soon, otherwise I will have to convert the temporary GMail account into a more permanent solution.
Update - 2008/09/05 - Dreamhost reported that they have rebooted the affected mail server. EMail certainly appears to be working.
Out of interest, I did a download large email message performance test between Dreamhost and GMail IMAP email servers. Below are the results (I am accessing from Thailand).
| IMAP server Ping time | Download time for 1400kb email (containing 1MB jpeg Image) | |
| GMail (imap SSL port 993) | 321ms (average) | 50 seconds |
| Dreamhost (imap SSL port 993) | 522ms (average) | > 180 seconds! |
Interesting...
Update - 2008/09/09 - have now moved all my email to GMail using IMAPSync. EMails are still being delivered to my DreamHost account as a backup measure. Performance is certainly a lot lot better!
