PocketWeather V2.1.0 Released

We have just released PocketWeather V2.1.0

Summary of major changes to PocketWeather V2.1.0

SmartPhone Home Screen Plugin

Finally, Windows Mobile SmartPhone/Standard device owners can now enjoy having the weather displayed on their homescreens!

All the features previously only available to the PPC/Classic/Professional Windows Mobile devices are now available on the SmartPhone/Standard.

Today Screen Gesture Support

PPC/Classic/Professional Windows Mobile Today Screen now supports gestures for quickly changing locations.

Tap and drag left, right, up or down to change locations.

Note that if you have PocketWeather running within PocketBreeze, the default PocketBreeze configuration is to support horizontal gestures to change views. So you might accidentally cause PocketBreeze to change view when performing a horizontal tap and drag. To overcome this, PocketWeather supports smaller motions - that is, you only need to tap and drag a small distance to cause the change. Alternatively, you can tap and drag vertically.

Diagonal gestures are also supported - no screen animation is activated, but instead it is as if you pressed the D-Pad to go left or right.

GPS (WM5/6 PPC only)

If your Windows Mobile 5/6 PPC device has built-in GPS, or is configured to use an external GPS unit, PocketWeather can make use of this to automatically add locations closest to your current position.

Note that to use the GPS functionality, you must first enable access to the GPS unit from within the Windows Mobile Settings/System/External GPS configuration screen.

Once enabled in the PW Options/General/GPS configuration screen...

...additional options area in the "Locations" menu appear.

Another option is to automatically add/update locations on every PocketWeather update with the closest available location. The newly added location is automatically configured as the [Home] location, and the current weather automatically downloaded (subject to update and internet access configurations).

If you enable the Google Terrain images for the newly added location, when viewed in WeatherConsole under the METAR Map, PocketWeather will display the last GPS position using a Blue Cross

Anyone able to work out where the Blue GPS Cross is marking?

GPS support is only available on WM5/6 PPC/Classic/Professional devices, and is currently not supported on WM2003, or SmartPhone/Standard devices. We hope to be able to improve that in the future.

Location Specific Layouts for Today/Home Screen

For each location on the today/home screen, you can lock the selected layout so that each time you go to that location, it will automatically load the previously selected layout, irrespective of whatever layout all the other views are using by default.

A new menu option is available. Enabling that causes that location's select of layouts to be fixed, and independent of the default layout.

So while all the locations use the default view...

you can now fix the layout for a specific view...

Yes that is PocketWeather displaying the current Thai exchange rates...

PocketWeather - "Best Software Award 2008"

I have just been informed that SBSH PocketWeather has been awarded "Best Software Award 2008" for SmartPhone travel software by Handster.

This is a real honour, and should be in recognition of all the hard work and input from the SBSH team and all the PocketWeather supporters and translators, without which PocketWeather would not happen.

Thank you!
