We set off through the gorge with rock walls towering to our side, then almost immediately, and far too soon after breakfast, we began to climb.
For 5km we rose up until eventually we found ourselves atop the ridge and looking down on the river below.

The scenery was even more spectacular than the previous couple of days.

After some undulations we enjoyed a sweeping descent.
We came across a herd of goats who wanted to lick our water bottles!

We had lunch at Pont Saint Esprit and had a superb view of the Rhone as we crossed the bridge.

The remainder of the ride was a definite shift as we followed flat roads through the Rhone valley.
Along the way we had glimpses of Mont Ventoux.

We followed the river which was very lively with the wind and seemed to be dancing along almost racing with us.

We were being helped along by the Mistral.
We arrived in Chateauneuf-du-Pape early and had to wait to access our accommodation. We were hoping to eat ice-cream but a restaurant wouldn’t let us have it without eating a whole meal. So we moved on to a cafe and had delicious ice-cream and cold drinks.

By 4pm we were able to go to the accommodation, and our hosts Valerie and Fabrice were a most charming couple who served us citron drinks which was locally sourced.
