We started early leaving Gramat. The landscape was soft with the morning mist and the air cool.
The first few kilometres rolled gently through farmland and oak woods, the limestone plateau still holding onto the cool of the morning.
We steadily drifted westward — tiny wiggles of the road, small dips, nothing dramatic, just that quiet rhythm of the ride.
The cloud cover kept us comfortable.
We had lunch in a quiet park area.
Then we rode along the Lot river valley, the scenery changed almost without noticing. The villages became smaller, the houses more golden, and the air warmer. We descended into Entraygues through a winding thread of road dropping towards the Truyère, the river glinting between trees with areas of white water dancing over the rocks.
Arriving in Entraygues — a pretty riverside town where the Lot and Truyère meet. We crossed the bridge and then had to ride a further 2.7km beyond the route to our accommodation.
The final 500m was up a steep hill. I was navigating to the house with Google maps holding my phone in one hand, so I had to stop and lost momentum, so I gave up and walked. At the bottom of the road, a friendly guy in a truck smiled and beckoned us to get on up the hill! It turned out he was the caretaker of our house!
Only Sally rode up the hill as she confessed she was desperate for the loo!
The group wasn’t thanking me for the hill, but I was forgiven when we arrived at our lovely spacious house with an incredible outlook over the valley!
This will be our home over two nights as we have a rest day, and did I mention? We are over half way through our journey and are now closer to Nice than St Malo!
