LEJOG Day 3, Thurs 12th September 2024

We set of from Eliot cottage. Carol and Soo had their rain jackets on as it was cold. I didn’t. Within 2 minutes the heavens opened and I was soaked. Too late to put on the jacket!

The early part of the ride went through some narrow lanes. Lots of ups and downs.

Eventually we arrived at our late morning stop, Tally Ho Inn. We were wet and cold. The landlord and staff were amazing. They gave us paper towels to stuff our wet shoes, and towels to keep us warm. We had brunch.

I decided to have a complete change of clothes at the van, but just as I was about to put on my rain jacket, it rained again. I hurriedly put the jacket on and was grateful for some warmth.

The ride continued mainly through hedge-lined roads.

Eventually we reached the open expanse of Exmoor which was spectacular.

Finally about to make our last decent to our accommodation, got a puncture. We struggled to get the tyre off and so with fading light and bitter cold we were rescued by Claire and Wolf (the van).

Back at base, after a shower and food, and with a team effort, we got the tyre off and a repair was made!

This was a long hard day with aching limbs and lots of walking up the ‘red’ hills. Still amazing scenery and camaraderie, another day on LEJOG.
