Just before Christmas 2024 I went for a routine Ultra Sound (US) scan.
I had continued to receive surveillance US scans and Thyroglobulin (TG) blood tests to make sure that there was no return of disease.
The radiologist had me lie completely flat on my back, instead of just leaning back as I had been used to. He spent a long time scanning and making humming and haaring noises!
When he’d finished, I asked if he’d seen anything. Usually, they will say that it looks absolutely fine. He said that he did see something and that the images would be sent to the consultant and that I may have to come back for an FNA.
I asked what an FNA was, and he said a needle. Then I realised that he meant a Fine Needle Aspiration Biopsy.
So on Christmas Eve, I was back having an Ultrasound guided biopsy.
Almost a month later I was called in for an appointment with the consultant (Mr Moore), who explained that I had another small lump in the area of the thyroid bed which was the same cancer and that it would have to be removed surgically.
I was given a date of 25th February 2025 for the surgery at Worthing Hospital. I asked if Mr Moore could do it and he agreed to put me on his list.
